Day 8: Heading to Rolla, MO (06/28/08)

After an uneventful night in Kentucky, got the bike packed up to head to Rolla, MO (pronounced, "rawla").

Jett & Colleen took off early since they would be having the clutch plate put on Colleen's bike there since it couldn't be done in Kentucky.

Carol, Anita and Lynette got up early to head to Paducah, KY. It's an art district there and where the National Quilt Musuem is located.

I was just too exhausted to drag myself out of bed and opted to hang out until Becky & Lilia were ready to leave.

We were planning to meet up with the girlz in Paducah by 10:30am and head to Rolla together. We got to Paducah at 10:30am but seemed to have taken the wrong route and miss the art district. Needless to say, the 3 of us went on our merry little way.

Let me just say that riding through Kentucky and Missouri were absolutely beautiful.

I believe we headed on the 60 West and ended up in Cairo, IL. The town is pretty much deserted except for a few places. We stopped for lunch at Mack's BBQ.

We mingled with the locals and I got a chance to finally have some vinegar-based bbq sauce and let me say, "YUMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Their sliced pork was delicious.

A couple we met used to live there back in the 70's and come back from time-to-time to have their sliced pork sandwich.

A couple of guys sat behind our table and asked if those were our bikes outside. They were surprised to see women riding. Lilia told (not verbatim) the one guy, "Yup, left the hubby home with the kids", to which the guy said, "that ain't right!" LMAO!!!

He then proceeded to give us directions on heading on to Rolla but a very scenic route. He said when we get to the 4 corners stop there will be 2 flee markets. "When you get to Fox's Flee...turn left". Becky kept making him say that. It was pretty funny.

We bid ado to everyone then head out on the rode again. I'll let Becky remind me of the route we took but it was absolutely beautiful. We hit a bit of spritzing rain but nothing compared to Roswell, NM.

We finally pull into Rolla, MO. Pretty busy little town. Got behind some old woman that decided during the turn, she'd slow down really slow, almost causing Lilia to ride right into her. Blaring of the horns and we went around her!

Got to the hotel, checked our bags in and got ready to head over to Scott's. He had come down to the hotel to escort us to his house.

Met his wife, kids and friends. He had such an elaborate layout of food. Pretty good cook there Scott! Greek food was the theme. Hell, I thought it was a belated birthday bash for me. LOL *yeah right!*

The food was delicious! Some of the girlz got caught up playing Guitar Hero while some of us others just enjoyed the scenery out on the deck. Enjoyed watching all the fireflies.

The plan was to head over to the Potato Patch (name?) but Jett and I were tired and decided to head back to the hotel and call it a night. Not sure what time my roomie came in but I was out like a light.

Our next stop, Oklahoma City. Sure hope I don't run into that grandma texting on her cell phone again. geez!
