Day 15: There's No Place Like Home! (07/05/08)

It's about 7:30am here in Buckeye, AZ. The winds have died down but the heat is picking up. It's about 90ºF right now.

Colleen and I did get up early and pack our bikes. Went to the breakfast room where they had crappy pastries and coffee. We were waiting on Becky & Lilia to wake up. It was about 9:15am when I decided to doze back off for a nap. I fell deep to sleep and finally woke up about 10am. Becky & Lilia were sitting on their bikes and I apologized for holding them up. I rushed to get my chaps on because having duct tape on them means, that I can't zip and unzip. I have to slide into them then put my boots on.

I douse myself with lots of water because it's just going to be another scorcher of a day. My temp gauge is reading 100ºF at 10am. We left Day 1 in excrutiating heat and now we're on Day 15 heading into excrutiating heat.

We're on the I-10 and pull into a Carl's Jr for lunch. At this point, I was pretty much keeping to myself. Wasn't really talking to anyone, just wanted to be alone. I kept quiet while the girlz were laughing. Before we left Becky said something about jumping in the river. I told her that I would just watch.

Yesterday, I had received a text from my ex out of the blue! Why was she texting me? Hell, she didn't even wish me a happy birthday like she did last year. All of a sudden she says that she misses our talks, etc. WHY NOW???!!! It took me until earlier this year to finally let her go and stop renting space in my head. The last time we "talked" was back in early 2006. So, now she's renting space in my head again for most of the ride home.

We cross the bridge where the Colorado river runs beneath it. I was saying to myself, "pull over, I just want to jump in!" Well, Becky takes the next exit for Queshan Park located on the border of Arizona and California. We ride on dirt/gravel, park our bikes under the trees and Colleen and Becky run for the river. Lilia and I soon follow. We see both of them fully-clothed swimming in the river. Lilia snaps a couple of shots.

We get down there, I find a bench. Take off my chaps, boots/socks and vest. Lilia's already heading into the water but she has her wallet. She looks back at me and asks to hold it for her. I'm walking barefoot on this slimy ground and as she threw her wallet, I slipped to one knee and stretched out for the catch! Damn I miss softball! LMAO!!!

We're all in the lake fully-clothed now and then Becky decides to moon us with her no-ass crack! hee hee

Lilia soon follows but does a swan-like dive. It was hilarious. Oh hell, I wasn't even going to moon anyone. Finally got out of the water and headed for the hills. Took some pics then off we rode...all wet and shit!

About 50 miles down the road, the heat is getting unbearable. It was already forecasted that Blyth, CA would hit around 130ºF. My temp gauge was reading about 121ºF. We pull off to the Desert Center gas station but it's not running. Seemed it closed a while back. Lilia rides down the road to the Desert Center Cafe and she motions for us to follow.

We park our bikes under some shade (about 125ºF plus) and head inside, where Hazel is waiting with cold towels and pitchers of iced water! What a Godsend!

[]

We're there for a good 45 minutes making sure we're hydrated enough to head back out on the road.

We get to Indio, where we say our goodbyes to Becky. She should have been back home on Thursday but wanted to make sure we were going to be okay and she stuck it out with us until she had to depart. I really enjoyed Becky on this trip. She kept us laughing, with her eyes crossed, finger pointed in the air and that animated character voice, she would yelp, "WE RIDE!"

Lilia was now taking the lead. Instead of taking the fast route home, she diverted through Palm Springs and Hwy 74. I really wanted to go home as soon as I could. Once we got out of the city and into the mountains, the range opened up. I was once again riding sweep and taking my time. The girlz were zipping through the twisties and I just wasn't in the mood for it. At one point, I lost them...they were gone...I was fine with that. Next thing you know, they are pulled over to the side waiting for me. I told them that I didn't want to ride like a banshee out of hell and to go ahead. Once again they zipped through all the turns and once again...were waiting for me on the side of the road. We set off again and this time I decided to keep up pace with them.

We get onto the 371 to Anza and stop off at the local Dairy Queen. Colleen treats us to some ice cream! Just what we needed. We all hugged each other because once we got onto the 79 to the 15, we would be splitting off. First Colleen, then Lilia and then I would have a long 45 minutes home.

As I was riding through the back country, I realized that even though we had traveled through some beautiful states, we really had everything here in our backyard. I don't think half the people living in our county realize what beauty lies out there for the taking.

Colleen's exit is coming up and we wave goodbye to her. It's now around 7pm when I wave goodbye to Lilia, who exits off Deer Springs Road. I'm alone now...heading home! I'm finally going to be home...with my dog Angel...sleeping in my own bed.

I ride into my garage, jump off my bike, take off my helmet/gloves and jump right into my truck...chaps, vest and all! I'm going to get my girl!

At this point, it felt funny...as if I forgot how to drive my truck. I was actually going the speed limit. Go figure. Trust me, that didn't last long. :)

Head over to my brother's, where the kids are playing outside, Jeff & San are cooking dinner and mom is sitting in the kitchen. I give my mom a big hug and run out back to my dog. She knocked me down twice and I didn't fight it. Go ahead Angel, kiss your momma!

Packed up her bedding, grabbed her food and off we went! I was finally home and could relax knowing that I wasn't going to get on my bike for Day 16. :)

Now, it's time to reflect back on it all.

Day 14: Heading to San Diego A Day Early?? (07/04/08)

The night before Anita & Lynette said they would be taking off on their own in the morning. Lynette was planning to meet up with some of the Desert Diamond girlz we had met on Day 1 of our trip and Anita was going to Laughlin.

Oh, it's getting hot and we're heading out hoping to get home to San Diego a day early. We had no plans to go to Laughlin.

I had watched the weather channel the night before (no surprise here) and it stated that most of Arizona would have thunderstorms. So far, all is good but we could see the rain clouds off in the distance. There was also a large fire. Hopefully, the rains would help knock that out.

We decided to head to Sedona. Went to the lookout point and took a couple of pics then rode down into town for lunch. I've been to Sedona back in 2000 but I swear, I don't recall how beautiful the ride through the canyon was. Guess, it was because I was fighting with my ex at the time. *eyebrows RAISED!!*

Photo: Left to Right: Becky, Lilia and Colleen

We parked our bikes and walk about a block to the OAXACA restaurant. We sit out on the patio, order our drinks & food. Either Becky or Colleen decided to throw ice to the sidewalk below. Some people's children. LOL!

Photo: Left to Right: Becky, Lilia, Colleen and me (Renee)

After finishing our lunch, we start walking to the shops. Another block and I'm starting to get winded. I just couldn't understand how I could give out so easily. We walked across the street to the Harley store. Walked up the steps and I finally gave out. My chest was tight and I had a hard time breathing. I finally had to break out my inhaler. I was having an asthma attack. I don't like using it because it gets me wired and my heart starts beating too fast for my comfort.

We get back on the bikes after dousing ourselves with more water, fill the camelbaks and get stuck in the July 4th traffic.

Seemed like forever to get out of Sedona to Phoenix. The heat was intense and we had to pull over a few times just to douse ourselves. Then we came into Phoenix traffic in mid-afternoon. OMG!!!...YOU PHOENIX DRIVERS ARE INSANE!! Y'all just cut in front of us never looking to see that I'm right there! and go right into the carpool lane when ya shouldn't be there (you single driving fool!) then jump right back out when you shouldn't and tailgating so close that I could hear your damned radio playing. I kid you not. I actually prefer SD traffic to Phoenix. This was the point in which I wished the guns on my bike were REAL!

We finally pull into a gas station and we go inside to get out of the heat. I bought about a 1-gallon bottle of water and poured it over my head. The other 2 large bottles I put, replenished my camelbak and one for later. Discussion was going on with Lilia, Becky & Colleen. They suggested that we get a room for a couple of hours until the heat died down then head back out on the road. I was fine with that but I was also looking at the thunder clouds that were surrounding the city.

We get to the hotel and everyone's taking a nap but me. I was bored so I went downstairs barefoot (as I only brought my boots on this trip) and went outside and carried on a conversation with the security guard. The winds were whipping up pretty fierce and you can see the lightning display surround us. The occasional fireworks were going off too. I think it was about 7pm.

I went back upstairs and sat back in the chair, in the dark, and started spinning. Could ya tell I was bored? I then decided to look out the window and we had a balcony. So, I stepped out and just watched the lightning show off in the distance. The girlz started to get up and we all went downstairs for dinner.

We all had chicken strips and salad. Salad was great but the chicken strips were a bit salty for my taste. I drank lots of iced tea because it was going to be a long night of riding and still hot. Paid the tab and get saddled on our bikes.

The winds were really getting stronger as we pulled out onto the I-10. It was about 10pm and we were prepared for the thunderstorm that awaited us. It was inevitable. Up ahead we saw spectacular shows of lightning spanning across the night sky.

The more we pushed on the stronger the winds got. What Lilia, Colleen and I experienced last year at the Cajon Pass paled in comparison to what we were riding in. Becky was leading but wasn't going very fast. I kept screaming in my helmet, "You have to go faster than the wind!" I could see Lilia ride up alongside Becky to tell her to pick up the speed.

I was concerned for Lilia because I remember last year during our Iron Butt ride, when I saw her get thrusted from right to left. She had pulled over to the side of the road and she was nerved. She seemed to be holding up pretty good this go-round.

I started getting scared myself. These winds were the strongest I've ever encountered. I was almost knocked off my bike. I did not want to ride any more.

I was riding sweep and kept a good distance between me and Colleen, who was riding 3rd. Lilia is on the right and barely misses a large toppled over road sign. I was riding the middle, so I was able to see it in time.

Becky signals to a gas station and we all fill our tanks. I jumped off my bike and went up to the girlz and said, "I'm sorry but I can't do this. I'm scared and don't want to risk my life. I'm going to check into a hotel and leave in the morning."

Becky apologized for going slow but she thought that's what we wanted. It's all good because we're all safe.

I knew I saw a hotel sign as we exited. So, I walked around the Love's gas station and yup, past the truck stop, there was a Days Inn. It was about 11pm and we all decided to call it a night and get rooms. We would be heading out early to try and beat the heat. We were in Buckeye, AZ, 16 miles west of Phoenix.

So, we were not going to get into San Diego a day earlier after all.

Day 13: Leaving Beautiful CO for Flagstaff...WHY??!!! (07/03/08)

It's the next morning and we're having to leave this beautiful little town. After I jump out of the shower and get dressed, I took the opportunity to take some pics.

I walked down through someone's backyard so that I could get a pic of a running stream. Oh how I wished I could have that in my backyard. After taking a few pics, I struggled to get up such a small hill. I was winded. I didn't understand since I climb flights of stairs, up and down, all day long. Well, we are at 7,800 feet elevation and the air is a lot thinner. Didn't realize it but I was having a small asthma attack.

We decided to check out the shops and pick up a few things. I broke off from the group and found me a bench to get my breath back. Walked into a store I went into earlier and picked up an Ouray pin for my vest and a tank-top for my friend.

Photo: Left to Right: Lynette, Colleen and Becky

All the bikes were packed and we headed out on the 550 West to Silverton. As we kept riding up through the mountains, the clouds were forming and the chill was in the air. We were reaching elevations past 11,000 feet. Does a number on one's lungs if you're not used to it. But it's so beautiful.

I was riding sweep and the next thing you know, my left sunglass lens popped out. I'm sure if my full-face helmet were closed, that puppy would still be inside and I could pull off to the side of the road and pop it back it BUT NO!!! I knew I looked funny to others as they passed me on the opposite side of the road. Like Becky said, "Ahoy matey!" ha ha

Well, even though I put the shield down on my helmet, it didn't stop the air from creeping in and starting to dry my contacts out. I needed to pull over but there was no safe place. Finally, miles down the road I saw an opportunity and pulled over. I figured the girlz would notice and wait for me up the road. I proceeded to put on my other glasses (so, now that's $100 down the toilet on transition glasses). I was hoping that the other transition glasses that I lost the lens to were on the opposite side but no.

I get back on the road and ride and ride and ride and ride. Nope...the girlz are nowhere to be found. I kept riding past sections of the road and saying to myself, "they could have stopped here!". Then I saw a sign for Durango...28 miles. So, I figured I was going to be on my own. About a few miles down, I see Lilia pass by me in the opposite direction. I finally meet up with the girlz and said, "Geez, how long did it take you to realize I wasn't behind y'all?" They said they didn't have any opportunity to pull over. I'll just leave it at that! *eyebrows raised*

We get to a crossroads. Get gas then head to the town of Silverton for lunch. Cute little town. We take pics at the old jail (dumbass me forgot my camera) then head across the street to Natalia's for lunch. We all had the lunch buffet except Lilia. I think she got a better deal on her meal than we did. The waiter made the buffet sound all that but sorry to say, it was not.

It started sprinkling and we knew that we were going to hit some rain. It was humid so I didn't really much care for a few spitting drops from above. So, off we go heading toward Durango.

We started to leave the beauty of Colorado and hit the flat plains towards the 4 Corners. We made sure we were going to stop there so that we could pay homage to Kaye, who had a day earlier slipped on the letter "A" of Arizona and broke her foot in 3 places. OUCH!!! This one's for you Kaye!

I wanted to do a pose that would capture me in all 4 states at the same time and I came up with it alright. :) I asked Lilia to please take a pic of me. As I started my pose, the girlz started saying, "Oh my!" LMAO!!!

Dusk is falling upon us. I managed to switch my glasses out in mid-ride. Not too far down the road, the girlz pull off across the street onto dirt/gravel and I chose to stay on the shoulder and put my hazard lights on. They were switching out there glasses and I just smiled because I was able to do it while riding. That wasn't the case last year during the Iron Butt ride when I tried that and my gas receipt envelope went flying away and a pen wedge in between my legs. That, I had to pull over and put my glasses on. :)

Almost became a hood ornament for a UPS semi truck who was following too close. Becky was leading and we needed to watch out for deer and whatever else jumped in front of us. Becky thought she saw a deer or actually did see one (I was riding sweep) and the brakes went on quickly and all I could see and hear was the UPS truck behind me. I slammed on my brakes and swerved to the shoulder of the road to get out of his way. Flipped the ass-wipe off!

We didn't get into Flagstaff until 11:30pm. Almost a 12 hr day of riding and stopping but we had fun nonetheless. Time to call it a night. We're planning to arrive in San Diego a day early. It's going to be another scorcher of a day.

Day 12: "Ouray for Hollywood" (07/02/08)

That's the song that comes in my head when I say, "OURAY!"

We were heading to Ouray, CO. The route Becky chose was just beautiful. I believe we took the 50 to the 550. At one point, I even suggested that afterwards, we could continue on the 50 to Tahoe then San Francisco. Lilia's eyes lit up. :)

Told the girlz that I would like to try and find a Harley dealership somewhere so I could get some oil. I started getting low. We head out on the freeway then Becky made a turn and next thing you know, we were at a Harley dealership. I never saw it. Glad she saw it. Got the oil and used about ½ a quart.

This was the part of Colorado I had been waiting for. Everyone keeps talking about how beautiful it is and they were not lying. We crossed the bridge to the Blue Mesa Resevoir and my emotions got the best of me. I was consumed by the beauty that opened up before me. It's as if it said, "Welcome Renee...there's so much more to see!" I lost it. I was crying full on. I couldn't believe that I've sheltered myself from seeing what this great country has to offer. This was just one piece of the puzzle to such beauty.

Photo: me (Renee)
As we pulled over, Becky came over and saw that I was boo-hooing. She knew what I was feeling and said, "It's a good thing!" Anita thought something had happened to me. Yes, it did.

I don't think alot of people take time out of their busy schedules to even realize nature's beauty and how peaceful and tranquil it can be on one's soul.

We get back on this beautiful road and keep on trekking until we can see the snow caps on the mountain (yes, there are still some left). We come up to a sign that says, "Welcome to Ouray, CO!" Throughout our ride through Colorado, we practically rode parallel with running streams/rivers. What an effing awesome site.

Photo: Becky

Cute little town surround by these beautiful mountains. As we rounded the corner into town, there were emergency vehicles off to the left. Seems there had just been a landslide that fell onto some newly developed homes. *eyes wide open* The main rode is asphalt but all the side streets are dirt/gravel. So, we had to be really careful when we rode to our hotel. I was nervous. ME NO LIKE GRAVEL!!!

It takes me a while to get my bike unpacked. I'm walking slowly, the cramps are unbearable. The girlz plan to head down the street to a local pub to relax and consume some ale. I chose to stay back at the room and draw a bath. Well, if I actually drew one, I would have enjoyed it more since I waited forever for the tub to fill up, only to find that the plunger was too small to make a proper seal. So, shower it is.

Think I started watching a movie (don't recall the name) and fell asleep. I woke up during the night and noticed the tv was still on but the weather channel was on. I could have sworn I didn't turn it to that channel. Could it be that after numerous days of me having the weather channel on, my roomie finally caved in and subconsciously turned it to that station? She swears she didn't. :)

We're planning to head to Durango but stopped in Silverton for lunch. Our next stopover will be Flagstaff, AZ.

Day 11: Pueblo, Colorado (07/01/08)

We were heading to Pueblo, CO today. The girlz just got back from doing their laundry. I had done mine 2 days ago back in Rolla, MO.

We're looking at 5-6 hrs of riding, given gas stops and lunch. Well...we got into Pueblo, pretty late. We tend to take longer breaks than we need to but we didn't really have any pressing engagements.

Mother Nature decided to visit me. I knew it was going to happen but nothing you can do about it. It's really hot outside and as long as the bike is moving, the pain isn't as intense but once we stop, that's a whole different story.

Photo: Left to Right: Anita, Lilia, Lynette, Becky and Colleen
The girlz were taking photo ops at the CO stateline but I chose to stay on my bike and let the heat consume me. It was the only thing that I could do to help relieve the pain. Colleen kept telling me to get out of the heat but heat is what I need. It's the next best thing to a hot bath...which I craved to soak in a tub.

Had some jack-wipe follow too close to me on a 360º ramp in Pueblo. Talk about reach out and touch someone. I would have loved to reach out and touch him with my 5 fingers curled into a fist.

Checked into our hotel and Anita had taken off to a liquor store earlier and got a bottle of Patron tequila. OMG!!! We were going to play Scrabble. Whatever...we just drank leftover Tecate beer *aaaacccckkk* and shots of Patron and ate pizza. We had fun! At one point, Lynette said, "I'm drunk!" LMAO!!! Girl, if you're drunk...you won't say that you're drunk. hee hee

I did wake up with a headache. I prefer Jose' over the smoother tequilas because they make my head hurt the following morning. :)

Didn't know what scenery I was missing in Pueblo but when I woke up in the morning, I said, "okay...nothing really."

Day 10: Which Way Do We Go George?! (06/30/08)

We're up and heading to Enid, OK. Ahhh...what comes next well, I guess it was inevitable. You knew it would happen sooner or later. It's the nature of the beast.

We stop off at the IHOP in Enid for breakfast and wait for Colleen and Lynette to show up.

I'm sitting on the far end of the table and a few of the girlz have maps out are discussing a route.

The day before Carol stated that there was nothing in Dodge City and that we should skip it all together. Well, that didn't sit well with me because Jett & I were looking forward to it. HELL...why do you think I brought my fricken cowboy hat, after all?!!! Jett just shook her head in agreement with Carol and I just walked away. Let me just say, a lot of the places we stayed at had nothing but we stayed there regardless.

Okay, so back to IHOP. I'm not listening to the conversation about where we're going. What I write in the next paragraph is based what I heard and read from others.

Next thing you know, the group is splitting up. Dodge City, KS will be skipped and a more direct route to Laughlin is Carol & Jett's goal. Lilia is thinking of doing her own thing.

Lynette finally shows up but Colleen is still not around.

I'm trying to figure out what's going on with the group. Carol & Jett want to get to Laughlin as soon as they can. Lilia wants to be on her own. Anita's planning to take off on her own. Becky & Lilia go off and talk. Jett & Carol are outside on the bench looking at the map. I'm getting a bit irritated to the point I was ready to rent a U-haul and trailer my bike back home because I didn't know what was happening. Remember, in an earlier post I mentioned we had alot of chiefs on this trip and not many indians. Everyone is getting to that point where they aren't so willing to just settle. Some want their space. What do you expect? We've been on the road with each other for 10 days straight. It's hot out and we're getting irritated and restless.

I decided since Dodge City, KS wasn't going to be on the route (depending on what the final decision was) that I would take the opportunity to wear my cowboy hat in the parking lot of the IHOP in Enid, OK. Woo hoo!!

Jett asked if I wanted to go with her, Kaye and Carol but I told her that I needed to wait on my roomie and see what she wanted to do.

Becky comes up to me and asks if I wanted to ride with her and Lilia. She said that we would try and keep to the original route and that we would be going to Dodge City, KS. That sounded just fine with me.

Colleen finally shows up after going the wrong way based on some wrong directions given to her. :) She also wanted to ride with her buddy Becky.

It now seemed that the group had split up in two. Jett, Carol & Kaye in one group and the rest of us in the other. I felt an uneasiness with everyone yet I didn't know the entire story of what & why things transpired as they did.

Jett wasn't happy, Kaye was in tears, Lilia was in tears and I was so effing confused.

I did what I had been doing this entire trip...going with the flow. We said our goodbye's and took off. Definitely not what I wanted but minds were made up.

Becky was taking charge of this portion of the trip now. She said we would be going to Dodge City, KS as planned. So, we had to re-reserve our rooms again since we had cancelled all the hotels from Dodge City, KS and on back at the restaurant. We were just going to wing it the remainder of the trip.

We head onto highway 11 near Cherokee, OK where we make a u-turn to park across the street. There are a couple of cars parked and people carrying large water bottles. I wasn't sure where we were until Lilia said that this is where an artesian well is located. I take this opportunity to cool myself off after filling up my water bottle.

We meet a family there and they ask about our trip. Kate aka "Skatin' Kate" is a firecracker. She has us busting up. Her husband Jack just keeps quiet in the background but will let out a couple of one-liners at the chance. We do a photo op with them and head on our way.

Photo: Counter-clockwise from top:  grandkid 1, Lynette, grandkid 2, Colleen, Kate, Anita, Jack, Becky, Lilia and me (Renee)

We finally make it to Dodge City, KS. We pull up to the visitor center, where across the way we can see the Dodge City Museum behind a fence. It was closed. Went to the hotel and checked in. The girlz were going to leave their bikes up front but I chose to go around back. Okay, this area doesn't look to be the "safest". It looks more like my neck of the woods. Anyway, I ride my bike around the back. Our room is below the parking lot. I decided that instead of trekking my bags around the way through the stairs, that I would just pop out the window and bring everything through there.

Lilia, Colleen and Becky follow around the back to park their bikes, while Anita & Lynette chose to keep their bikes up front.

Colleen's trying to get her bags in the window when I took a pencil and notepad and started asking what her order is.:D

Once Colleen got all her stuff through the window, she decided she was going to climb through instead of going around and walking through the door. Well...she didn't maneuver herself correctly and next thing you hear is RIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPP!!! Her right pant leg just ripped open. I believe she was wearing pink undies. The pictures will follow soon. :)

We head over to Applebee's for dinner, where to Lynette's surprise, a friend of hers from San Diego is sitting at another table. She happened to be there on a business trip. Such a small world I tell ya.

After drinks, dinner and lots of laughs, we head back to the hotel for poker and beer. Since I didn't have my cowboy hat, I pulled out my collapsible HD hat. That thing was so smashed that I doubt I'll ever be able to get it's shape back. It looked like a fedora. All I needed was a feather and I could just start pimpin'.

We decided that we would have to call each other by our biker names or we'd have to take a drink. You can guess, we were drinking alot. LOL!

Anita - Mighty Mouse
Lilia - Sassy Ass
Lynette - Rockabilly
Colleen - Bam Bam
Becky - Baby
Me - Duct Tape

The next morning, Anita, Colleen, Lilia and Becky headed to the laundrymat to do laundry while I chilled out at the hotel. Went an had lunch across the way at Dairy Queen and waited on the girlz. We got on the road by 1pm.

We never did make it to the Dodge City Musuem but we were here and my hat was in Kaye's car.

Wasn't sure where we were going next but it would be Colorado. Becky & Colleen talked about a little town of Ouray, CO where they stayed at when they did their vacation to Sturgis last year and that was our next destination but we would be staying in Pueblo, CO for the first night!

Day 9: DUCT TAPE! (06/29/08)

Our goal is to get to Oklahoma City, OK. I say "goal" because that never happened.

Colleen would be staying with family in OK City and Lynette would be staying with her family (I don't recall the location).

I had told my dad before I left for my trip that we were staying in Oklahoma City. He called his cousin Modine to tell her that I would be stopping in and to expect me. My dad was born in Oklahoma City, OK. Since I didn't know the area and wasn't in the mood to get lost, I called and told him that the plans had changed.

We all headed out towards Oklahoma. We diverted onto Old Route 66 in Devils Elbow, MO.

Prior to this, my right chap leg zipper came undone. I didn't want to stop the group, so I just sucked it up and waited until our next stop. So, when someone motioned to turn around to take the side road to the Devils Elbow Bridge, I was relieved.

We parked at the Elbow Inn and I asked Jett to help with my zipper. Seemed that my chaps weren't used to the daily zipping and unzipping on this trip and finally gave out. What was I going to do? Well, the only logical thing to do...USE DUCT TAPE!!!

This is where I dubbed myself, "Duct Tape". I think that duct tape, velcro, bungee cords and baking soda are the best inventions ever! :)

I asked Jett to please duct tape my chaps. She did a criss-cross pattern and it seemed to do the job.

We rode onto the Devil's Elbow Bridge and parked our bikes there. What a beautiful view of the Big Piney River. The Devil's Elbow Bridge is marked as one Missouri's "Seven Scenic Wonders." The steel truss bridge is very rusted and looks as if it's on it's last leg. I hope they preserve this wonder.

This video makes me laugh so much!

We get back on the I-44 to head towards Oklahoma. After approx. 1½ hrs, we head into Springfield, MO where Lilia rides past me and up to take the lead position. She diverts onto I-160 West to lead us to the Fantastic Caverns. I've heard of this place and never in my imagination did I ever think I would end up here. Fantastic Caverns is America's ONLY drive-thru cave. How effing cool is that?! Oh wait...I'm claustrophobic! eeeeekkkk!!!!

I was somewhat excited and wasn't sure what we were going to do. Lilia had checked to see the rates and the length of the tour.

A couple of the girlz didn't seem too keen on this. After all, some needed to meet up with relatives and we also were to meet up with the Tulsa chapter of WITW. After a few phone calls, and prodding those reluctant ones, we ventured on our journey through the caves.

Our tour master, Brad, Bryan, something with a B told us that the caves were first discovered in 1862 by a farmer's dog but it wasn't until 5 years later that the first exploration took place by 12 women from Springfield. That's when I yelled out, "Towanda!" Everyone erupted in laughter...well, the guys didn't really get it. :) Their names still remain on the cave's wall.

It was FANTASTIC!!! LOL! Even those who weren't too thrilled about the detour, really enjoyed the ride. Thanks Lilia!

It was nice to actually go somewhere and see some of the great sites this country has to offer. I will say, I would never have gone on my own to see this site.

Once we got into Oklahoma, we went ahead and cancelled our OK City room reservations and reserved rooms in Tulsa, OK instead.

We met up with the Tulsa WITW chapter at a local biker hangout. Great hospitality and lots of laughs. Each of their members have biker names. Something we finally developed on our trip...well, some of us. :)

Here are some of the the Tulsa, OK chapter biker names that I recollect:

Chip - She works for Frito Lay
Sprout - She loves brussell sprouts
Dammit Beaner - don't recall why but I thought she was cute. :)
Hippie Chick - self explanatory
Undertaker - runs a funeral home
Tazer - I think she's a sheriff

They escorted us back to our hotel and waited while we dropped our bags off...we were heading to the casino! They took us on Riverside Drive, where we ran parallel with the Arkansas River. That was really pretty. Only a couple of the girlz stuck around and we thanked the others for their hospitality before heading inside.

We played a bit then headed back to our rooms. Jett was leading (I know she's tired of leading) :) and we got lost. Carol went off somewhere...think her GPS was guiding her. Jett, Becky and myself finally pulled over into a parking lot while we saw Anita & Lilia turn a corner. We waited and waited but we didn't see them. A police car looked at us and figured, we were lost.

Next thing you know, we see Lilia and Anita, and the lights flashing of a patrol car. We said, "oh shit!" We thought they were being pulled over for, well...you know?

Next thing you know, the officer is in front of the girlz, they pass us and we join in. We were being personally escorted back to our hotel. How effing cool is that?! The officer who escorted us is Naresh Peraud. He also rides a motorcycle. Did a few photo ops...which, I could have sworn I used my camera but I have never found the pics.

Carol K is already there. Obviously, her GPS got her there. I preferred getting lost and getting a personal police escort. :)

We'll be heading to Enid, OK to meet up with Colleen and Lynette before we head out.

Day 8: Heading to Rolla, MO (06/28/08)

After an uneventful night in Kentucky, got the bike packed up to head to Rolla, MO (pronounced, "rawla").

Jett & Colleen took off early since they would be having the clutch plate put on Colleen's bike there since it couldn't be done in Kentucky.

Carol, Anita and Lynette got up early to head to Paducah, KY. It's an art district there and where the National Quilt Musuem is located.

I was just too exhausted to drag myself out of bed and opted to hang out until Becky & Lilia were ready to leave.

We were planning to meet up with the girlz in Paducah by 10:30am and head to Rolla together. We got to Paducah at 10:30am but seemed to have taken the wrong route and miss the art district. Needless to say, the 3 of us went on our merry little way.

Let me just say that riding through Kentucky and Missouri were absolutely beautiful.

I believe we headed on the 60 West and ended up in Cairo, IL. The town is pretty much deserted except for a few places. We stopped for lunch at Mack's BBQ.

We mingled with the locals and I got a chance to finally have some vinegar-based bbq sauce and let me say, "YUMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Their sliced pork was delicious.

A couple we met used to live there back in the 70's and come back from time-to-time to have their sliced pork sandwich.

A couple of guys sat behind our table and asked if those were our bikes outside. They were surprised to see women riding. Lilia told (not verbatim) the one guy, "Yup, left the hubby home with the kids", to which the guy said, "that ain't right!" LMAO!!!

He then proceeded to give us directions on heading on to Rolla but a very scenic route. He said when we get to the 4 corners stop there will be 2 flee markets. "When you get to Fox's Flee...turn left". Becky kept making him say that. It was pretty funny.

We bid ado to everyone then head out on the rode again. I'll let Becky remind me of the route we took but it was absolutely beautiful. We hit a bit of spritzing rain but nothing compared to Roswell, NM.

We finally pull into Rolla, MO. Pretty busy little town. Got behind some old woman that decided during the turn, she'd slow down really slow, almost causing Lilia to ride right into her. Blaring of the horns and we went around her!

Got to the hotel, checked our bags in and got ready to head over to Scott's. He had come down to the hotel to escort us to his house.

Met his wife, kids and friends. He had such an elaborate layout of food. Pretty good cook there Scott! Greek food was the theme. Hell, I thought it was a belated birthday bash for me. LOL *yeah right!*

The food was delicious! Some of the girlz got caught up playing Guitar Hero while some of us others just enjoyed the scenery out on the deck. Enjoyed watching all the fireflies.

The plan was to head over to the Potato Patch (name?) but Jett and I were tired and decided to head back to the hotel and call it a night. Not sure what time my roomie came in but I was out like a light.

Our next stop, Oklahoma City. Sure hope I don't run into that grandma texting on her cell phone again. geez!

Day 7: Off to Calvert City, KY We Go (06/27/08)

Dragged myself out of bed, getting ready to hit the road again :(

Jett had mentioned the night before that her and Colleen would be taking off early to get to Calvert City, KY because Colleen needed to get her bike in the shop. Not sure if Carol went with them.

John & Jessie were heading to the car rental to return their SUV and take a flight back home. Their portion of the trip was over. John would be working on the editing of the footage he took of our trek to Graceland and Presley Place.

Biby had a 10:30am flight back to San Diego and took a cab to the airport. Didn't get a chance to say goodbye to her.

Nancy & Debbie chose to go their own way from here. Their plan was to ride the Smokey Mountains, while the rest of us headed towards Kentucky. Our original plan was to ride out to Nashville but because some of the girlz were having issues with their bikes, they needed to take care of that instead.

Clouds were rolling in, and the only thing I had been watching on this trip was the Weather Channel. Colleen was so sick of seeing that dang Weather Channel but I wanted to be prepared.

It was about 9:30am.

Becky took Lilia to pick up her bike. We were planning to wait for them but Lilia's bike wasn't ready and they told us to take off without them. We left their bags with the front desk, since they wouldn't make it by checkout time.

Looks as if it were Anita, Lynette and myself heading to Calvert City.

Nancy & Debbie were just coming downstairs and getting ready to head out. Then the rains started coming down. I ran outside because my helmet was hanging on the handlebars and filling up quickly with water.

The parking lot started filling up with puddles of water, which makes it a bit tricky on the bike when you're trying to get your footing.

The 3 of us got on our bikes and off we went. Now, Anita just loves her GPS and I had heard enough of GPS on this trip so far. I also have one and it's still in the box...where it shall remain until I sell it.

We're thinking that it shouldn't take too long to get to Kentucky. Anita programs her GPS and I tell ya, it took a good 1½ hrs to get out of Memphis. Why you ask? Well, Anita's GPS kept telling her to go on this route and even though the sign was there as plain as day, she would keep going back over the dang bridge. Oh, it's beautiful and all but enough was enough already...especially dodging those dang semi trucks.

I kept shaking my head and saying to myself, "I hate that dang GPS!!!"

I told her to pull into a gas station and ask for directions. She was adamant about that damned GPS. Finally, we pull off the freeway, not too far from the hotel and we get to a pretty deserted street except for the taxi cab driver sitting there. She asks him for directions and he doesn't know. Are you EFFING kidding me???!!! He's a fricken cab driver. They're suppose to know the city in and out.

We get back on the freeway and when Anita thinks she's on the right path, we're lost once again. We finally get to a gas station and I just about had enough. This part of town was NOT the place to be lost in. I had to get into "ghetto mode" to deal with it. :)

I went inside and asked for directions to route 14 or 15. Don't really remember but it was a route Anita wanted to take instead of the freeway. Once we FINALLY got on the route, I only got grumpier. We were hitting stop light after stop light with the city traffic. I told Anita at one of the lights, "When I see a sign for the freeway, I'm taking off. I will not deal with this stop and go crap!"

We finally got out of the congested area and it was pretty much smooth sailing and a pretty good ride. I started to calm down. Guess the fact that we kept depending on that dang GPS and going in circles, just made me irritated because I just wanted to get on the right road and RIDE!

Anita wanted to make sure that we took the road that would lead us to the Land Between The Lakes. We crossed over the river (name?) and I was just in AWE!!!

We enter the Land Between The Lakes and OMG what a beautiful site. Twisting roads, trees abound and deer ready to jump out in front of you. I had never seen so many markers for graveyards in a 80 mile stretch of road.

Anita was leading and at one point, I could not let this beauty escape me. I tried feverishly to get her to pull over so we could get a pic. I sounded my horn (sounds like a car horn), flashed my lights and finally had to pull up along side her on the narrow road to get her attention. She apologized and said she was just concentrating on riding. *eyebrows are raised* Always check your mirrors!

We finally pull over to some check stop for the park workers and do some photo ops. Lynette blurted out, "Look, there's a deer and they're wagging their tails to let the others know it's safe to cross."

Photo: Left to Right: me (Renee), Lynette and Anita

Darkness was falling upon us. We were finally getting closer to Calvert City. We check into the hotel. Colleen comes over and tells us to go to the breakfast room. Jett, Kaye & Colleen had picked up dinner for us. We filled our plates and sat down to eat. I started talking about how long it took us to get out of Memphis and I was losing my cool. Who knew it would prompt me to be called "grumpy" the next morning.

So far on this trip, we've had more chiefs than Indians. I'm normally a chief but on this trip, I opted to be an Indian. I've expressed my dislikes and things I'd like to do but went with the flow for the majority of it. Hell, it was my vacation and I think I had a right to vent. I also expressed that even though I was irritated for our major usage of time trying to get out of Memphis, Anita more than made up for it when we hit the Land Between The Lakes.

Tomorrow, we'll heading to Rolla, MO (that's pronounced, "rawla") to meet with Lilia's high school "friend" Scott and his family. He planned a BBQ for our visit. Can't wait!

Day 6: Graceland & Presley Place (06/26/08)

Well, after a late night, dragged myself out of bed and rushed to get ready and meet everyone downstairs by 8:30am. Of course, I didn't leave right away and got to Graceland a few minutes after 9am. Our tickets were for 9:08am and, we were suppose to be on Tour 2 but they let us in before Tour 5. Took a couple of group shots.

On the tour shuttle we went and crossed the road and into the gates of Graceland. From photos I've seen of Graceland on TV and magazines, his mansion looked grandios but when we went inside, it really wasn't that big. Nothing wrong with that because too much of a house means too much cleaning/dusting. *aaaacccckkkk* :)

Upstairs was off limits for whatever reason. The decor in some of the rooms were a bit much for me, especially the shag wall-to-wall AND ceiling carpeting. I kid you not. GREEEEEEEN!!!! Do remember, that was the "in thing" back in the days. I love retro, and there were many things that suit me just fine.

After the mansion tour, we were taken back across the street. We all kind of went our own little way as far as checking out other exhibits. I was getting hungry as I don't eat an early breakfast, usually more brunch time. I checked out the Elvis' auto museum, bought a couple of items in the gift store and met up with some of the girlz then headed over to the Harley store to get a couple of things.

Of course, the pink cadillac pin I bought for my vest eventually flew off. I never learn and will be buying those really hard rubber backings. I do still have my Harley Elvis pin though. :)

Went next door and had lunch. I, for the life of me cannot remember what I had but I do remember having iced coffee (that's all Anita kept ordering on this trip. :) ) and iced tea.

Went back to the hotel and chilled out for a bit before I needed to be downstairs around 5:30pm to head over to Presley Place.

We were really hoping to meet up with our Humboldt, TN chapter but they couldn't swing it. We all met outside, John and Jessie in their SUV, and the rest of us girlz on our bikes.

Rode out to the M.I.F.A (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association), where we met up with a couple of motorcycle police, patrol officers, the director and associates of Presley Place. After a couple of photo ops, we were being escorted to Presley Place by the police. How effing cool is that?!

As we rolled up to the center, all the children and their families are cheering us. We parked the bikes and all the children ran over to us. Hugs and handshakes all around.

We then let the kids get on our bikes and let them roll on the throttle so they can experience a little something that we do when we ride. These kids were so excited and the smiles proved it. I thought a couple of the bikes were going to blow a valve or two.

We brought the kids lots of stuffed biker animals, die-cast motorcycles, temporary tattoos, bandanas, etc. They were stoked and so were the parents and staff.

Photo: me (Renee) and a resident of Presley Place

Presley Place is located in the poorest section of Memphis. We got a tour of the apartment (more sq. footage than my place), the center, which is conducted solely by volunteers. We were really impressed with the facility and what they offered the families.

Photo: Left to Right: me (Renee), Jett, Becky, Carol and the Director of Presley Place (forgot her name)

Got back to the hotel and I decided to go out to dinner to Westy's around the corner. The girlz were having dinner down in the hotel restaurant. I enjoyed a couple of beers and had a wild rice dish. It consisted of wild rice, cheese, chicken and mushrooms. I soooo love mushrooms. Got back to the hotel and called it a night.

Day 5: MEMPHIS - HERE WE COME! (6/25/08)

The day was finally here. We were heading to Memphis, TN.

Jett's all giddy! This is the day she has been waiting for! I'm so excited for her.

We're leaving Arkansas on the I-40. Just about every trucker is out on the road and we're playing dodge ball with these guys. A few close calls but all are safe.

We pull off to the town of Brinkley, Ark. We wanted to eat at the Waffle House but they were booked. Ended up at Gene's Barbeque but we didn't eat any bbq. Biby had frog legs and she sat next to me. *aaacccckkkk* Not very appetizing or visually pleasing to my ojos!!!

The locals tell us to avoid the truckers on I-40 by taking the parallel road into Memphis on the I-70. That was much better even though we were following a semi...didn't matter, we weren't dodging everyone any longer. We merge back onto I-40 as we're heading into Memphis. We all raise our fists in excitement!

Pulled off to the visitor center and have a few photo ops and go inside to cool off. There, in a room alone, is the statue of Elvis. We all take group photos.

Photo: Top Left to Right: Colleen, Becky, Carol, Anita, Jett, Nancy, Kaye, Debbie. Bottom Left to Right: Me (Renee), Biby, Lilia and Lynette

We go up the street a bit to our hotel (Crowne Plaza). Let me just say, it may look nice but they should have provided alot more for the price.

We all checked into our rooms and only had about an hour to chill before we had to meet downstairs then head over to Beale Street.

We get to Beale Street, where the street is lined with every type of motorcycle imaginable. Cones are laid out right in front of B.B. King's.

Kaye's daughter works there and had them save a parking spot for our bikes. We check out the scenery before heading inside for some grub.

Once we finished eating, we all headed outside to mingle with the other bikers. Lots of cool bikes and some funky ones too.

There were quite a few female bikers out as well. One in particular talked to us. She heard that we were coming and wanted to meet with us when we head over to Presley Place the following evening. Her biker name is Lady Lotta Nurve. Love her! See, she was once a resident of Presley Place. She got her 2nd chance at cleaning up her life and now, she wanted to repay them by helping us out with the kids. Too cool!

The night was finally winding down for US because we needed to get up early and head over to Graceland (the moment Jett has been waiting for) by 9am.

Day 4: Van Buren, AR (6/24/08)

Leaving Shamrock, TX. Rode through the upper portion of Oklahoma.

We stopped off in Clinton, OK because Lilia's bike needed a new gasket on her primary. We were there for about 2 hrs. Bought me a new pair of transition glasses ($50) since I lost one of the lens when riding into Roswell, NM. So, I've spent $100 on 2 pairs of transition glasses. I love them but if the lenses are going to pop out so easily, then they should only cost about $10, in my book.

Jett and I checked our oil levels and topped it off. There were 2 military recruits in the store and John (filmmaker) decided to interview them. We all thanked then for their service to our country.

Once Lilia's bike was ready, off we went. I panicked because I wasn't sure if I had my keys (don't need them to start the bike) and pulled onto the shoulder of the rode. Checked my pockets and they were tucked safely. Better to check it now than to realize it 2 hours later.

Once we got into Oklahoma City...the traffic was like playing dodge ball. I actually watched some 80+ yr old woman texting on her phone while driving along side me. I swear, I didn't see her look up. Maybe she was letting the little knobs in the road guide her. I got out of the way quickly, as I didn't want to be one of those knobs! Hellooooooooooooooo!!!!!

After dodging the Oklahoma City traffic, the I-40 going east was absolutely beautiful. Beautifully manicured highways (even the center divide), with various exits that parks had been created. Lots of trees. While riding, I kept thinking about what I would do in the event we were caught in a tornado. I kept looking at the groves of trees along the highway and told myself to dive in there as I felt it would be about the most safest place. My bike of course would not fair well in that event.

We (Jett, Nancy, Debbie and myself) crossed into Arkansas, heading towards Van Buren. I knew where we were staying and was just behind Jett, who was leading. I started waving to Jett to let her know that we needed to exit but she kept following the sign for Van Buren/Ft. Smith. Well, we crossed over the Arkansas river (beautiful!) and turned into the first store we saw. Happened to be a liquor store. Jett asked for directions and wouldn't you know it...Van Buren is a "dry" town but Ft. Smith is not! We picked up some beer, strapped it onto the bike and back across the river we went...back to where I started waving Jett to exit originally. It was all good. :)

Once everyone checked into their rooms, we all hopped on our bikes; John, Biby, Jessie, Kaye & Anita all rode BITCH!; and headed for Big Jake's Steakhouse for dinner.

Tomorrow was the day we had been waiting for! Memphis...HERE WE COME!!!

Day 3: Onward to Shamrock, TX (6/23/08)

It's about 11am and the girlz have returned from the UFO museum. Once again, the temperature was going to be a scorcher! We doused ourselves with water before heading out.

I must say that riding the I-40 through Texas was nothing spectacular. Just open plains, cows, and small towns along the I-40. Let me tell you...HEAT & THE SMELL OF COW SHIT, DON'T MIX WELL. *aaaaccccckkkkk!!!!* I did see a dead armadillo with it's feet up in the air.

What I have noticed so far on this trip, most towns seem deserted after 5pm. Something that I'm not accustom to. No one walking the streets, no cars around, just quiet...then we come rollin' in.

We get into Shamrock and decide to stop at an old-fashioned Conoco gas station to take some pics. As I pull in, my foot slips on some gravel and I can feel the bike start falling to the right. Jett looks back towards me and doesn't say a word. I just have this look on my face (which no one can see because of my face mask & glasses) and, I did everything in my power not to let that bike drop because I did NOT want that captured on film. Phew...John was nowhere around but Jessie was. I managed to pull a Hulk and upright my bike and park it. PHEW!!!!!! That would have sucked.

With the gas prices rising, I thought it only fitting that I pose for the appropriate shot!

Photo below: me (Renee) bending over and Nancy

We check into our hotel and decide to order pizza and get some beer. The problem is, Shamrock is a "dry" town. John went into Oklahoma to get a couple 30-packs of beer. We asked the front desk if it were okay to eat in the breakfast area and she said, "not a problem." We gave her beer, pizza and Hostess Ding-Dongs.

This was the first time since we left the trip that we actually relaxed, drank beer and munched on all sorts of Ding-Dongs, Twinkies, donuts, Zingers, etc! Then...the girlz decided they wanted to go set off some fireworks that Nancy had purchased back in New Mexico. They asked the front desk where they would be able to set them off and she put a call into the Sheriff, who told them where.

At first, I was told that a couple of trucks would be coming to take us to the spot but I quickly realized, the girlz were hoppin' on their motorcycles. I was in no condition to ride, so I stayed back. Well, hours later, Biby comes into the room with a shocked look on her face. Needless to say, the girlz were all back safe. I won't go into details as I was not there to witness it. :) BUT, I will say this...it involved a semi, a ditch or two and facing the wrong way. Okay, 'nuff said. :D

Woke up, packed my bags and went out for some english muffin, yogurt & coffee. Not everyone was awake. Jett was blogging away and getting ready to head out. Somehow, we convinced her to wait for everyone. Carol had taken off at 4am. I don't know why. We had a goal of getting out early every day until we reached Memphis, since we were on a deadline for Graceland and Presley Place. After that, no real deadline to meet other than Rolla, MO, where Lilia's friend was hosting a bbq dinner for us.

Went across the street to gas up, bought a Route 66 & Texas state pin.

Next stop, Van Buren, AR.

Day 2: On To Roswell, NM (6/22/08)

Well, after a late night with the Desert Diamond girlz, we enjoyed a few moments of picture taking and thanking them for their hospitality before heading out to Roswell, NM.

We knew it was going to be another scorcher of a day but going through the mountains would give us a reprieve from the heat. We only hit around 80ºF plus. A lot better than the 120ºF plus the day before.

I was absolutely exhausted. Only got an hour sleep. Have you ever been so tired that you just couldn't fall asleep? That was me. Didn't know how I was going to keep my eyes opened but going on the twisty turns gave me no choice.

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Came up upon a sign that said, "Salt River Canyon". Boy oh boy, when I rode into the open canyon, tears welled up. I was overtaken by the beauty.

We pulled over to take some photos. One of the girlz was backing up her bike when someone yelled, "watch out!" and she dropped it. LOL We told her to not get so excited next time and just hold on. :)

We crossed into New Mexico and off in the distance, we could see the storm clouds. They looked ominous! Jett, Carol, Lynette, Nancy, Debbie, K. Lee and myself took off ahead of the rest of the pack. I donned on my leather jacket and full-face helmet in preparation for the pending thunderstorm that we were most likely going to encounter.

We got to the town of Tinnie, NM, where 2 deer crossed right in front of Jett (she was leading) and a 3rd was just about to run across and changed it's mind. I was right behind her and said, "Of sh*t, don't let that deer jump in front of me!"

The winds started picking up. We were pretty much slanted and then the rains started and if that wasn't enough, the hail started pelting us. All the while, the lightning and thunder surrounded us and the sun from behind blinding us in our mirrors. I kept my eye on Jett because she only had her doo-rag on her head and a bandana on her face. She also had a short windshield, so she was getting the brunt of the pounding. K. Lee also only had a bandana and beanie helmet on.

Nancy and Debbie, were also in there motorcycle attire of ripped jeans and sandal-type shoes. *tisk tisk*

We were moving so slow because of the traffic. We only had 17 more miles to Roswell, NM, when Jett saw a sign for a rest area. We rode in and everyone had their bikes under the cover but ME!

We were still missing K. Lee and Carol. All of sudden, we looked up and saw K. Lee crouched over the tank as if she were riding a crotch rocket and she never saw us. Nancy looked behind us and saw that Carol had stopped on the side of the road about 200 yards back. She went to see what was up and Carol's spark plugs were wet from the rain. Nancy went a head and cruised the bike to the rest stop. Got the plugs dried off and her bike started right up.

Jett put in a call to Kaye, who was back with the remainder of the group and told her to expect the storm we were in. (Click the pic) Off in the distance to the left, you can see the a single head-light, that's Carol's bike. :)

We hopped back on our bikes to head towards Roswell. Just hoping the storm would let up but it didn't. We got into town and for some reason, we all got separated. Jett and I were trying to find the hotel and made a couple of U-turns. Debbie was off on her own, Carol and Nancy were already at the hotel. K. Lee ended up at the wrong hotel and decided to just stay there for the night and meet up with us in the morning.

Well, once we got checked in, the remainder of the group pulled in. Wouldn't you know it...they never encountered the storm. They said that they only saw water on the side of the road and the ground was dry and sunny.

Most of us headed across the street to IHOP for a late dinner. I really didn't want to go because I knew we were going to have to get up early again to head out. Jett convinced me and said that we wouldn't be leaving until 11am. Some of the girlz were planning to go to the UFO museum. I wasn't interested in it so I enjoyed the couple hours just laying around then packing up the bike.

Off to Shamrock, TX!
