Leaving Shamrock, TX. Rode through the upper portion of Oklahoma.
We stopped off in Clinton, OK because Lilia's bike needed a new gasket on her primary. We were there for about 2 hrs. Bought me a new pair of transition glasses ($50) since I lost one of the lens when riding into Roswell, NM. So, I've spent $100 on 2 pairs of transition glasses. I love them but if the lenses are going to pop out so easily, then they should only cost about $10, in my book.
Jett and I checked our oil levels and topped it off. There were 2 military recruits in the store and John (filmmaker) decided to interview them. We all thanked then for their service to our country.
Once Lilia's bike was ready, off we went. I panicked because I wasn't sure if I had my keys (don't need them to start the bike) and pulled onto the shoulder of the rode. Checked my pockets and they were tucked safely. Better to check it now than to realize it 2 hours later.
Once we got into Oklahoma City...the traffic was like playing dodge ball. I actually watched some 80+ yr old woman texting on her phone while driving along side me. I swear, I didn't see her look up. Maybe she was letting the little knobs in the road guide her. I got out of the way quickly, as I didn't want to be one of those knobs! Hellooooooooooooooo!!!!!
After dodging the Oklahoma City traffic, the I-40 going east was absolutely beautiful. Beautifully manicured highways (even the center divide), with various exits that parks had been created. Lots of trees. While riding, I kept thinking about what I would do in the event we were caught in a tornado. I kept looking at the groves of trees along the highway and told myself to dive in there as I felt it would be about the most safest place. My bike of course would not fair well in that event.
We (Jett, Nancy, Debbie and myself) crossed into Arkansas, heading towards Van Buren. I knew where we were staying and was just behind Jett, who was leading. I started waving to Jett to let her know that we needed to exit but she kept following the sign for Van Buren/Ft. Smith. Well, we crossed over the Arkansas river (beautiful!) and turned into the first store we saw. Happened to be a liquor store. Jett asked for directions and wouldn't you know it...Van Buren is a "dry" town but Ft. Smith is not! We picked up some beer, strapped it onto the bike and back across the river we went...back to where I started waving Jett to exit originally. It was all good. :)
Once everyone checked into their rooms, we all hopped on our bikes; John, Biby, Jessie, Kaye & Anita all rode BITCH!; and headed for Big Jake's Steakhouse for dinner.
Tomorrow was the day we had been waiting for! Memphis...HERE WE COME!!!
